Armenia ranks 3rd from the bottom in the Rainbow Europe 2016 survey in relation to LGBTQ+ people.

Legally marriage is considered only union between a man and a woman. Because of this, same-sex marriages performed in other states are also not recognized. Same-sex couples cannot adopt children. Homosexuals cannot serve in the military.

Societal norms also do not accept same-sex unions. Representatives of LGBTQ+ tend to hide their orientation, so as not to be rejected by the family and not subjected to hatred and condemnation.

However, there are no criminal prosecutions for “LGBT propaganda” in Armenia, and films and series are not censored. Also, the number of gender reassignment surgeries has recently increased in Armenia (the MtF transition prevails). And the young urban generation is more tolerant of all manifestations of relationships.
