general information
There are three levels of education in the Republic of Armenia: grades 1-4; grades 5–9; 10-12 grade. General education begins at the age of seven (when it is reached before the end of December of the given academic year).
From the second grade Armenians are taught the Russian language (in Russian classes - throughout their studies), in the third grade English is added. The compulsory subjects are chess,
Evaluation takes place on a 10-point system. In the fourth grade, knowledge is tested in the form of oral answers and tests, and exams are taken in grades 9 and 12.
Compulsory education - 9 classes. After that, the student can enter the secondary school instead of school.
In high school, students choose an additional subject (1-3) for in-depth study in order to prepare for university entrance.
Public schools in Yerevan do not provide free meals
Documents for admission
- Application addressed to the director;
- Original and copy (notarized translation) of birth certificate or passport
- A copy of the student's social number or a certificate of refusal;
- Certificate of registration in the state register of population (registration);
- Two 3x4 photos for the "Education Management Information System" in the student's electronic personal file;
- Conclusion on the registration of "children in difficult life situations" in the information system. It is issued by the territorial center of pedagogical and psychological support (as needed);
- When transferring from educational organizations implementing primary (professional) or secondary vocational educational programs (college, college), a certificate of the dates of study at the institution, subjects studied, when transferring during the academic year, as well as current and semester grades, the number of passes;
- The conclusion of the territorial center of pedagogical and psychological support on admission to a special public school (as needed);
- Document of the military commissariat (for pre-conscripts - young people aged 16-18).

Education in Russian
Schools with instruction entirely in Russian
- Nyberg (grades 1–4 with a mathematical bias);
- "Perspective" (11 classes, Russian program);
- school No. 21 under the Ministry of Defense of Russia (11 classes, Russian program; children of non-military personnel are accepted subject to availability);
- "Slavyanskaya" (grades 1-12, Russian program);
- "Free School" (grades 1-8, author's program).
All schools, except for No. 21, are paid.

Schools with Russian-speaking classes
It is possible to enroll a child in a Russian-speaking class at a school that is under the jurisdiction of the Yerevan Municipality even without a residence permit.

Teaching children with special needs
There are no special schools for children with special needs in the Republic of Armenia. They can study in a regular school together with other children, as the country has a system of universal inclusive education.
Price order
Education in public schools is free. Private schools set their own prices.
The lowest cost of education at the school "Perspective". Price 8000–14000 rubles. (AMD 40160–70280 as of 04/03/2023) per year depending on the class, and for children with registration in Moscow - free of charge.
The most expensive school is Nyberg, the price is $6840 per year. The average cost of education in a private school is about 1,250,000 AMD per year. In each individual case, it is worth clarifying about discounts and additional fees for electives, lunches, etc.
Exams for admission to secondary schools and universities
Exams for 9th grade
In grade 9, compulsory exams are held in the following subjects:
- history of Armenia (oral);
- literature (oral);
- foreign language (English, French, German, other languages at the student's choice - orally);
- natural science (physics, chemistry, biology, geography at the student's choice - in writing);
- Armenian language (in writing);
- mathematics (in writing);
- physical culture (passing standards);
- Russian (oral) for students studying in Russian;
- Russian literature (oral) for students studying in Russian.
When entering the secondary school for some specialties there is an internal exam.
Exams for 12th grade
- Armenian language and Armenian literature (in writing);
- history of Armenia (in writing);
- mathematics (in writing);
- physical education (passing standards);
- Russian (oral) for students studying in Russian;
- Russian literature (oral) for students studying in Russian.
Additional items are provided as needed. Exams are held in December and June. Often, students take those subjects that are not useful for admission in the winter, so that they are not studied in the second half of the year.
Additional items can be taken twice to choose a higher grade. The maximum number of points in one subject is 20. For some specialties in universities an internal examination is provided.
