In the event of an emergency, from any mobile or landline phone, dial the ambulance number - 03, 103 or the rescue service number - 112, 911. The rescue service will immediately connect you with an ambulance if you cannot reach 03 or 103.

Ambulance operators are generally fluent in Armenian and Russian. English is optional. The operator can invite a colleague who speaks English to the phone if he realizes that he cannot cope. Try to calmly explain the situation and listen to the recommendations - it may be easier and faster for you to get to the hospital yourself. If the arrival of the brigade is justified, then you will be asked standard questions: the main symptoms, the name and date of birth of the patient, the name and who the caller is to the patient, the address of the location.

What time do the doctors arrive?

On average, the arrival time of an ambulance in Yerevan takes 7 minutes. It's really very fast. The longest wait time will be 15-20 minutes. In Armenia, it is customary to meet an ambulance team in the yard to help find an apartment or a victim as quickly as possible. Unless, of course, this means leaving the patient completely alone. If difficulties arise, the operator will call you to clarify the location.

What is the price?

Providing emergency medical care in Armenia is free for citizens of any country. You will not have to pay for calling an ambulance or transferring to the hospital. Without payment, they can make a diagnosis, give an injection, prescribe medications to alleviate the condition, but only for people with potentially fatal cases. They will also not provide full treatment - they will only stabilize the condition.

Doctors will ask you to present the main identity document (passport) and registration.

If you need to be hospitalized, you will be taken to the hospital and taken to the emergency room. Hospital treatment for non-residents will be carried out on a paid basis. How much you have to pay depends on the hospital and the specific disease. By the way, an interesting fact about the state hospitals in Armenia: no one is ever fed there. Relatives bring food to patients themselves. They are often asked to bring their own bed linen.

If the doctor shows very sensitive attention, does not spare the medicine from his suitcase, and waits a long time for the patient’s well-being to improve, it is customary among the locals to thank them financially in this case. This is done unobtrusively and solely out of good will. No one will demand or even hint.

What if the child becomes ill?

If an illness occurs to a child, a team with a pediatrician arrives. However, in case of high fever, poisoning and non-life-threatening conditions, doctors rarely provide assistance on the spot and strongly insist on hospitalization of children for a full diagnosis and treatment under the supervision of doctors. Be prepared for this. It may be easier to immediately take your child to the emergency room of a children's hospital:

  • MC "Arabkir»

Tel.: +374 15 400300

Address: Yerevan, st. Mamikonyants, 30.

  • Hospital "Muratsan»

Tel.: +374 10 450230

Address: Yerevan, st. Muratsani, 114.

  • Hospital of the Holy Mother of God (“Surb Astvatsamayr”)

Tel.: +374 10 727801

Address: Yerevan, South-Western quarter B-4, st. Babajanyan, 21.

To assist the child, you will need his main document (birth certificate or foreign passport) and the passport of one of the parents.

What else is important to know?

  • The language of communication. Many doctors in Armenia received a Soviet education, so they speak Russian flawlessly. Even with ethnic Armenians, they often speak Russian. However, there are exceptions, if the doctor himself came from Europe, America, Iran or Syria - in this case you will need to communicate with him in English. Doctors are required to keep all records in Armenian, but at your request they will also write in Russian.
  • Required documents. During the assessment, the nurse will fill out a chart. To record all the data correctly, you will only be asked for your passport and registration.
  • During hospitalization, Russians are usually shocked by one question: “Which hospital are you going to?» Here an ambulance can take you to any hospital. If you do not know a doctor or have a preference, then most likely you will be taken to the nearest one. The same situation will happen if the health condition is critical.
  • It is also possible to call a private ambulance. These teams are attached to certain private medical centers and, accordingly, will take you there. Calling such a team will already cost a fee, but it will be possible to receive full-fledged help right at home: IVs, inhalations, and even prescribing further treatment.

The private ambulance team can be called at the following numbers:

Medical Center "Nairi": +374 10 546000, +374 8 900

Medical Center "Erebuni»: +374 8119 or +374 10 477070

Medical Center "SlavMed": +374 10 322211

  • Insurance. Non-residents of Armenia can receive fast, high-quality, in many cases, and free medical care with the help of health insurance. To do this, you need to register with an insurance company and buy travel insurance. If you already have one, call them immediately in an emergency. The operator will select the best assistance option for you and advise on further actions. As a rule, if you have insurance, you can save a lot on treatment.

We wish you good health! May the information in this article never be useful to you. But remember: forewarned is forearmed. You may also find our article about ambulance from FAQ.

Everything is described more rosy than it really is. The question “which hospital?” you most likely won't be asked. Of all the hospitals in Yerevan, only RNC Armenia accepts everyone in any condition, and even the locals say that it’s better anywhere but not there. If the condition is serious, then even the fact that you are a paid patient will not open the doors of another hospital for you (possibly connections or rich ability to give bribes will help, but this is not certain). In the case of insurance (even if it includes hospitalization), the insurance company may answer that they don’t take the patient without an accurate diagnosis, and for an accurate diagnosis, first go to the hospital and get an examination (the hospital must be from the named list, and yes, all of them can also refuse you). And no, even if the doctor calls and names the diagnosis, this is not an argument for the insurance company.
And everyone's favorite Nairi replies that they are forbidden to accept patients in serious critical condition.

The good news is that resuscitation for citizens of the Russian Federation is also free.

By the way, number 103 also works to call an ambulance.

So hello everyone! And if you have a chronic (God forbid diabetes + something else) and there is a suspicion of something really serious, then while you can take a plane, fly to Moscow. Scary as it may seem, but there are still more chances to fight for life than here.

Thirty-six ambulance brigades are constantly on duty in Yerevan. Of these, ten are in intensive care. Another psychiatric, the rest are linear. There are seven substations in the city. They arrive really fast!

Travel insurance only covers emergency treatment. You will not be able to treat serious, chronic diseases with it. So for a long-term stay in Armenia, you need other insurance.
