Description

Alexander Spendiaryan is a famous composer, conductor and founder of symphonic music in Armenia. Spendiaryan's musical heritage is rich in new artistic concepts, a variety of genres and expressive techniques.

The Alexander Spendiaryan House-Museum was founded in 1963 by decision of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR at Nalbandyan 23 (now 21), in the house where Alexander Spendiaryan lived in the last years of his life, in 1926-1928.

The house museum was opened in 1967. This is the first music memorial museum in Armenia. The collection of the house-museum initially consisted of 400 items, later the funds were replenished, and currently the fund’s collection includes more than 1,350 museum items. These are Spendiaryan’s personal belongings, handwritten and printed notes, letters, documents, photographs, press and books. The permanent exhibition of the house-museum includes such unique museum items as the musical instrument “Spendiarophone”, created according to the composer’s idea, and the prospectus for the first performance of the opera “Almast” in Yerevan (1933).

Restored in 2011, the house museum opened its doors to the public with a new permanent exhibition. The museum is one of the favorite places for musicians and music lovers, where concerts, lectures, exhibitions, and various educational and cultural events are regularly organized.
