Description

The Armenian Railway Museum was opened at Yerevan station on July 31, 2009.

Over the years of work, the museum has collected an extensive exhibition dedicated to the history of the railways of Armenia, which dates back to May 1895.

Then the tsarist government decided to build the Tbilisi - Alexandropol (now Gyumri) - Kars railway. Construction began in 1896, and the first train arrived in Armenian Alexandropol in the winter of 1899. Subsequently, construction began on the Alexandropol – Erivan (Yerevan) railway, which was put into operation in 1902.

The exhibits collected at the Armenian Railway Museum cover the entire history of Armenian railway transport. The exhibition includes copies of historical documents about the beginning of railway construction in Armenia, photographs of old trains, including the train of Nicholas II, small copies of old and modern trains, and railway equipment.

During Soviet times, the museum was not operational - only a small exhibition was presented in a carriage standing on the tracks.
