Description

The museum was founded in 1988 after an exhibition of Parajanov’s works, first organized in the Museum of Folk Art of Armenia. In the same year, in the ethnic quarter “Dzoragyugh”, Sarkis Parajanyants was allocated two adjacent buildings for residence and for a museum. In 1991 the museum was open.
The main part of the collection is Parajanov’s works: engravings, texts for films, dolls, hats, as well as furnishings and personal items transported from the master’s Tiflis apartment during his lifetime and at his request.
The museum contains letters from Parajanov to Lily Brik, Tarkovsky, Nikulin and other artists. The exhibition includes 700 works. In two memorial halls, some fragments of the furnishings of Parajanov’s Tiflis and Kyiv apartments have been restored. Most of his works were created during the years of imprisonment.

The museum organized 56 exhibitions in Cannes, Thessaloniki, Moscow, Kyiv, London, Los Angeles, Tehran, Beijing, Paris, etc.
