The museum named after the statesman and political figure, 1st Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Armenian SSR, national hero of the Republic of Armenia Karen Demirchyan was founded on January 9, 2001, by decision No. 9 of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. The opening ceremony took place on April 20, 2007, on the occasion of K. Demirchyan’s 75th birthday.

The museum is rich in documentary materials - photographs, documents, personal items, government awards, as well as gifts received from relatives, colleagues, works of art, Olympic gold medals and so on. Museum visitors are given the opportunity to get acquainted with the activities and life of Karen Demirchyan’s associates.

The museum often organizes thematic exhibitions. Karen Demirchyan’s personal archive, which is kept in the museum’s collections, occupies its unique place in the museum. The Karen Demirchyan Charitable Foundation and the museum jointly published books, brochures, and catalogs telling about the life and work of Karen Demirchyan.

The museum has a meeting room where various events are held - scientific conferences, debates, meetings with scientists, culture, industry and politicians.
