Description

Khachatur Abovyan is an outstanding Armenian writer and national public figure of the early 19th century.

The house-museum of Khachatur Abovyan is located in one of the most beautiful and ancient districts of Yerevan. The ancestral house of the Abovyan family, whose history today dates back almost three centuries and is an example of the traditional Armenian environment with its ancient way of life and morals. With its hospitality, this house delighted the most influential figures of the time, travelers and scientists from different countries. Among them were: Friedrich Parrott, August Hagsthausen, Hermann Abikh and many others.

Since 1938, the “Abovyan House” officially began its activities as a museum. In 1978, a decision was made to provide and open a separate museum building, where today exhibitions representing the life and work of the great Armenian Enlightenment are successfully held. In addition to biographical documents and materials related to the work of Khachatur Abovyan, paintings, sculptures, objects of applied art, photographs and documents are also exhibited here. It should be noted the works of famous Armenian artists: G. Bashinjagyan, E. Kochar and others, as well as ancient and rare printed publications.

On the territory of the Museum there is a bronze sculpture of Abovyan by the famous sculptor A. Ter-Marukyan, made by him in 1913 in Paris. This is the first monumental sculpture representing a literary figure to be included in the official list of historical monuments.

One of the “calling cards” of the Museum is “Abovyan Park” with rich and varied vegetation, an “open-air” library, Wi-Fi, etc. Cultural evenings - concerts, performances, readings, presentations, entertainment, etc. – an integral part of the Museum’s activities.
