Description

The “Republican” stadium named after Vazgen Sargsyan used to be called “Dynamo”.

In 1931, the Dynamo sports community turned to the Council of People's Commissars of Armenia with a request to build a stadium. By decision of the Council of People's Commissars, the Yerevan City Council allocated an area of 16 hectares for the construction of a stadium in the center of Yerevan.

The main construction work on the stadium began in 1933.

In 1935 the stadium was commissioned. The first football match at the Dynamo stadium took place in June 1935. In the opening match, Yerevan “Spartak” and Moscow “CDKA” met.

The stadium was first reconstructed in 1963.

The architect of the stadium is People's Architect of the USSR Koryun Hakobyan. The architect G. Chgnavoryan also took part in the project of the stadium.

The master plan of the stadium has been carefully studied, starting from the interconnectivity of the stadium, the park around it and the landscaping system.

The stadium was reconstructed for the second time in 2000. It has an electronic entry system, a VIP podium, a video surveillance system, and 10 bathrooms.

The Armenian national team played its first match at the Republican Stadium in 2000.
