Description

Yerevan Zoo is one of the most cozy corners of the capital. The decision to create it was only 3 hectares, whereas now the park occupies about 36 hectares. Today, more than half of the territory is the territory of a zoo. In the early years, the zoo exhibited more than two dozen animals and birds, which were acquired during the 12th State Zoological Exhibition held in Yerevan.

Today the zoo has about a thousand animals of 140 species. The zoo's living collection includes a huge variety of animals and birds representing different climates from remote parts of the world, such as tigers, lions, primates and a number of exotic birds.

Among this diversity, species characteristic of the Armenian highlands - the Armenian mouflon, the bezoar goat, the Syrian brown bear, the Caucasian lynx, 4 species of vultures (bearded vulture, griffin, Egyptian vulture and Eurasian black vulture) undoubtedly stand out in the zoo’s collection. Most of the local animals are rare and endangered. This is why the mission of the Yerevan Zoo is not only to put species on public display, but also to breed and reintroduce them into the wild.
