Description

The city of Sevan is named after the famous lake in the high mountains of Armenia. If you believe the legend, then in ancient times the Gods and holy bright stars drew water from it. It is the largest lake in the Caucasus. For those who decide to travel to Armenia, it is definitely worth visiting Sevan and its surroundings.

People believe that long ago, on the site of the lake, beautiful gardens of unearthly beauty bloomed. These gardens were constantly watered with water from a small spring gushing straight from the ground, the pressure of which was so strong that it was covered with a large stone. One day, a girl, having collected water, forgot to close the spring and water flowed out of it all night, so much so that it flooded all the nearby houses.

The old man, seeing everything that was happening, cursed the girl and wished to become her stone. Now in the middle of the lake there is a stone island, which, according to legend, resembles the head of that unfortunate woman. But this is just a legend, everyone decides for themselves to believe in it or not. The history of scientists, of course, is simpler. They believe that the lake is a volcanic crater formed several thousand years ago.

Today the lake is surrounded by several mineral springs. On its territory there is a park “Sevan” and a nature reserve. A wonderful picturesque place that pleases the eyes of visitors and residents of the surrounding areas.
