The first zone of Friendship Park and a skating rink opens in Gyumri

UPD: Due to the tragic fire in the military unit, the opening of the Friendship Park is postponed to February 3, and the skating rink will start working from January 26.

On January 20, the opening of the first zone of the Friendship Park in Gyumri will take place, the renovation of which began in the fall of 2021.

Friday from 16:00 to 22:00 the first visitors to the park will be able to ride and take part in fun games and free workshops for children, enjoy a concert show program and shop at the winter fair.

Friendship Park was laid out in the 1960s in one of the central districts of the city on an area of 7.2 hectares, but after the earthquake in 1988 it fell into disrepair. Now, according to the plan, Friendship Park should connect the historical center, residential and industrial zones of the city and become a kind of bridge between the “old” and “new” Gyumri, traditions and renewal, past and future. The example of the park will show that the history of the city continues, that Gyumri is alive and moving forward. In the reconstructed park, the pavilions of the Vernissage and the School of Horticulture will function. When working on the design of the park, the designers from IND Architects, who won the renovation competition, took into account the memories and suggestions of the city's residents. The launch of the zones will take place gradually, the opening of the finally renovated territory of the park is scheduled for 2024.

The program is implemented on the initiative of the charitable Foundation for Tourism and Urbanism TUF.
